Ozone therapy
O Z O N E   T H E R A P Y
Disease begins when ozygen in the body decreases.

When you hear the word "ozone" you may immediately think poor air quality or you may think about the ozone layer in our atmosphere.  We do not normally consider ozone as a medical therapy; however, it is probably one of the most effective treatments I have come across.
Ozone was discovered in 1840 and shortly after was used to sterilize surgical instruments and disinfect operating rooms.  In the 19th century it was used to purify water from virus' and bacteria.  During WWI it was used to successfully treat gangrene.  Today there are over thousands of practitioners using ozone and over 100,000 treatments have being administered.  It is safe, effective, and a compound found naturally in our own bodies.

Living optimally now helps ensure vibrant health throughout one's life and well into old age.

Why is ozone so beneifical?  Below is a list of various actions in does (but not limited to)

  • Speeds up metabolism by stimulating mitochondrial respiration by stimulating decarboxylation of pyruvate to N-acetyl co A and stimulating citric acid (helping produce energy)
  • Regulates the immune system; decreases immunoglobulins at higher concentrations and increases them at lower levels
  • Bactericidal, fungicidal, and viricidal without developing resistance
  • Protection from virus' and bacterial infections.  Note: it is selectively antibacterial and helps correct the flora.
  • Stimulates the production of superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase which are found on the cell wall and help protect the cell from free radical damage as well as protect it from intrusion.
  • Increases 2,3DPG which binds to hemoglobin and allows for the release of oxygen near tissues that need it most
  • Increases the po2 and the difference between the Pa2 and the pv2, which means your body is getting more oxygen
  • Antiaging  &  Detox
  • Normalizes lipids (cholesterol and triglycerides)
  • Increases red blood cell distensibility allowing them to move through the capillaries easier
  • Increases gamma-interferon, Il2, and TNF-alpha
  • Enhances the effects of chemo and radiation therapy
  • Increases the anti-inflammatory response

Their are a few different ways to administer ozone.  You can drink water that has been ozoated.  You can apply the ozone gas directly to the skin, especially burns and infetions.  It can be injected into the gum line while at your dentsit to prevent infection and speed up healing.  It can be added to the nose or the ears.  It can be insulfalted into the rectum or vagina or it can be infused directly into the blood through a process called autohemolytic therapy.  This involves taking 60 - 180 ml of blood via an IV line, injecting it into a saline bag, adding ozone gas to the saline bag and then returning it to the patient via the IV line.  It takes ~ 40 - 60min.
After a treatment one can feel revigorated, nothing, or more tired (seen in herxing reactions as bacteria die off).  The dose is adjusted to how you feel post treatment and how much progress you are making in treating your current symptoms; however, it will strat low and then increase over time.  Often it takes about 5-10 treatments to notice considerable results.

Below are some of the many resources I have come across.  If you know of any additional ones; please let me know and I will add them below.  I believe this is a therapy that we need to bring awareness too as it is so safe and so effective!

Is ozone therapy safe in pregnancy?
In pregnancy it is difficult to say whether something is safe or not as it is unethical to test on pregnant moms.  When referring to ozone the same can be applied; however, ozone is a molecule that is found naturally in the body, which does provide some reassurance.  It has also being used to prevent miscarriage, strengthen the placenta, treat infections related to pregnancy, anemia, toxicity in pregnancy, and any inflammation present. Below are a few resources to help you decide if ozone is right for you.
Keep in mind many scientific journals look at issues of a pregnant mom's breathing in ozone, which is dangerous (especially if it comes with polluted air). However, when it is administered through insulflation or via the blood it is much safer.
